Alright, so there are so many things that i want to share but i don't have the longest time so maybe edit this message a bit and send to those who will not see you in the next few days! haha but right now what is mostly on my mind is a select few of my investigators, we are teaching a guy named Tom, he has a way strong testimony in what we have been teaching him, we committed him to keep the word of wisdom our visit before last and he had problems with smoking, drinking tea and coffee, but he said that tea and coffee would be no problem and in 1 week he went from drinking those every day, majority of the day, to having non and all, and cut back smoking from 2 packs a day to 6 cigs a day! so he is making a lot of progress, we are meeting with him tomorrow to see how he is doing, we committed him to baptism, he wants to so badly, but we are currently trying to figure out his work schedule cause he is a security guard friday, saturday, and sunday from 7am-3pm so we don't really know how we can get him to church but we are praying and hoping a solution will present it-self so he can get at least the hours we have church off so he can get baptised, he told us last time... "i know that your church is the right church" so we are so excited but we just need to work through that little problem. i just got finished with the week with the car, so we don't get a whole lot of street contacts but when ever we go to an appointment that falls through we usually go tracting around that area.
ok so pretty scary moment! and cool story at the same time. so my companion is the district leader so i help him with our meetings on friday, and one thing we talked about during district meeting was keeping our lessons shorter so that we leave when the spirit is strong so that when we leave, and so about a week ago we were riding our bikes to an appointment and we can across this family who had a few cats outside and one looked just like henry! so i stopped and figuring that they were a cat loving family, i kind of played off of that, but we told them what we as missionaries were out here doing, and we shared just a 30 second message about how God called a prophet to the earth, just as times past, we asked if we could come back and share this message with them, they agreed, so we came back a few days ago, and went to teach the restoration, we got there about 6.15-6.30 and started talking to them. and we found out that the mother and father are both preachers for different religions! and the daughter, who is like mid 30's?? he basically training to become a preacher, for a totally different religion, i cant remember which ones at the moment, but they all have very strong views and like to argue! but we calmed them down and kind of got the situation under control. and so we kept the lesson to 30 minutes, but they had so many question that we said we would answer when we came back, so we said a prayer and stood up to leave. when we got to the door, the tornado sirens went off!!!!! it was crazy! so we turned on the weather channel and listened for a bit, and there was a tornado forming like 50 miles away from us! it was crazy!!!! and so the family asked us to stay, we had an appointment and 7.15, and right when this happened our appointment called us and said not to come. so we said that we would like to stay cause our apartment doesn't have a basement, so we watched the news for a bit, and we basically started up our discussion again. and we talked more about the book of Mormon, and we gave 2 of them a copy, but the father (vern) wouldn't take one, he was pretty against our church, he kept on saying that the bible is all that we need, but right when we handed the daughter (susan) a book of Mormon, she busted it open and started reading! right then! haha and she read the first 3 chapters of the Book Of Mormon, while we were teaching her and her parents! she got to the part where nephi cuts of the head of laban and basically said, that he already likes this book! so my companion is going over there tonight, I'm going on splits up to el dorado, (a city way east of Wichita) i go on so many splits i believe this is my 8th exchange this transfer? yea that sounds right, but so I'm so excited to hear how the lesson goes tonight.
If i haven't told you yet, my companion is Elder McMillan! he is the coolest, we have quite a bit in common, we both wrestled in high school, and although he isn't the best sport player he puts all he has into what ever he is doing! so its always fun to play with him! today we went to a local high school and played flag football with our entire zone, so it was way fun, but usually we play basketball or volleyball at the stake center! its weird to think iv been away from home for almost two months! but i don't know what its like at home but its going by way to fast if you ask me!
There was something i was reading while preparing for the district meeting called (the Forth missionary) and while i was reading it, it said alot of things, but something that stood out the most is one thing that you said to me in an email while i was in the MTC, about how President Peterson has that quite dignity, when i came out into the mission field and i read that, i knew what it meant, but i didn't understand it till now, i like how you said a servant of the Lord, when i came out into my mission one of the other missionaries asked me what i wanted to be or what i wanted to accomplish, i basically told him i wanted to be a great missionary, and i wanted to convert someone to the gospel, and only after a few short weeks, i can already see how much 1) i need to change, and 2) how much i have changed. although it is great to help convert someone to the gospel, i noticed i was doing it for me. i wanted to be a great missionary... but a great missionary isn't what i need to become. as you said a (servant of the Lord) that is one thing that I'm really trying to focus on right now. its difficult but I'm learning how to forget about myself, make my will the Lords will. And a lot of it comes with patience and dedication, all i know, is that everyday i am out here serving the lord not only with my might, and my strength, but with my heart and and my mind, i am learning how to become a disciple of Christ, and looking back at home, i can remember a few people that really have that outlook, who really put God and Christ before himself.
I'm sorry i don't have any pictures right now, but next monday i will be sure to bring my camera and cable so i can attach some photo's to one of my emails to send home! keep me posted on what your house is like! I'm so stoked for you! i went through my photo's on my camera a few days back and found a short video of Elin walking around the house, while katie was following her! It made me smile, cause i forget sometimes what its like at home, which in my mind is a good thing right now, but I'm excited to see how she grows! let the family know that i love em all, and pray for them every night! i love you guys! stay sweet! (going through my mission I'm realizing how helpful your advice has been! cause i didn't get all of it before, so keep on sending those little add-ins! cause they are helping me more then you know! thanks for all your help!)
love ya, Elder Dahl!!!
